News

There are a number of weathermen who have already been brave enough to produce a forecast for winter 2011/12.
Whilst we have all become cynical of long range forecasting, (barbeque summer, anyone?) there does seem to be scientific evidence to back up these predictions. Low solar activity, the return of La Niña, and atmospheric ash from volcanoes has prompted some meteorologists to say that this winter will be exceptionally cold, with significant snowfall over large areas of the country. Indeed, there have been reports that this may be one of the most severe winters of modern times.
We have all experienced the disruption that this type of weather can cause, but year after year, we find ourselves ill prepared.  Here at SCH, we always start the season with a large number of pedestrian salt spreaders (SSS) in stock. Carrying up to 60kg of free flowing salt in it’s hopper, the unit itself is 830mm (32”) wide, but has an impressive spread of up to 3.5 meters. Pneumatic wheels make it easy to push over most surfaces, and a shower proof cover is supplied with the spreader. Of course, when the seasons change the unit can then be used for seed and fertilizer, making this a versatile product all year round.

DON'T LET ALL YOUR HARD WORK GO TO WASTE...

The 180 litre towed water cart...a potential life saver for your plants.

We have already has quite a severe dry spell, and at time of writing it's only May.  On the one hand, it's rather nice to enjoy the weather after the shockingly cold and long winter, but it doesn't bode well for our plants, lawns, hanging baskets and trees.  We spend time and money getting everything looking just right, so making sure that don't let everything die off is very important.  Our selection of waterers and bowsers can help you keep on top of things.

As well as the GWC shown above, one of the most popular waterers in our range, the 70 litre Trolley Mounted Waterer
(ref THBW) has now been updated to provide even more efficiency. As before, this unit comes with a telescopic lance that extends up to six meters making it ideal for watering hanging baskets. There is a rose head on the lance, but this can easily be removed to allow a straight outlet for filling reservoirs. This lance is easily interchangeable with the short lance, (also supplied as standard) which is suitable for watering tubs and beds etc. Each of the lances has an on/off switch. The waterer now comes with a more powerful 22amp rechargeable battery, supplied with its own charger. We have also added a swivel castor on the rear with its own breaking facility – a useful safety device when working on slopes.

There are a number of features on this waterer that many customers tell us they particularly appreciate. For example, the tank has a wide neck for filling, which is beneficial when fertilizer and nutrients etc need to be added. The 400 x 8 wheels are sturdy enough to make manoeuvring the unit up and down kerbs and steps a breeze. In order to conserve battery power, the 12 volt pump operates on a pressure system, meaning that when the flow is turned off the pump shuts down automatically. Resume the flow and the pump switches itself back on again.

This is of course just one waterer from our range. Do call us if you would like any further advice or information.

Every organisation likes to receive testimonials regarding their products. But when SCH recently received a copy of a write-up from Heelands Rangers, a charity set up to provide league football for children of low income families, we found an embarrassment of compliments!
Operating on a budget, Heelands has to keep 7 pitches in playable condition. By using our 48” system with a roller, aerator and a slitter they have managed to keep the pitches in top condition without breaking the bank.
Dr. Lewis Elford, the chair of the Board of Trustees is also the handyman and grounds man and as a wheelchair user needed equipment that he could use with ease. He told us, ‘I can’t understand any club, football rugby or cricket, not looking at buying this piece or in fact any piece of SCH Ltd equipment. If I can work and use this machinery with ease, then anyone should be able to.’ Praise indeed.
We were also particularly delighted to read the comment, ‘On top of that, when you call SCH you are made to feel you are part of the family and given good advice, not sales talk.’
Heelands Rangers suggest that anyone interested in buying such equipment should check out their website, www.heelandsrangersfc.co.uk, to see the results for themselves.
To read more comments from Dr. Elford, visit our Testimonials page.
We are pleased to have been able to assist Heelands Rangers in keeping their pitches playable, and wish this worthy organisation every success.

LOG ON TO A NEW TRAILER

It’s getting chilly outside – time to move those logs to and from the store. The easiest way is to use a trailer, but which type?
You will find a variety of options at SCH. Budget trailers, galvanised trailers, plastic or wooden trailers, dump trailers and hydraulic tipping trailers all in a variety of formats mean that you should find what you are looking for. And if you don’t? Ask about our bespoke ‘special build’ service, and we will work with you to design and manufacture to specific requirements.
At this time of year, garden trailers are also useful for the removal of fallen leaves and other garden debris, and are an excellent investment for year round use. Moving hedge clippings, grass cuttings or hay and straw for animals is made easier with the help of a well-built, robust trailer.

WE CAN HELP YOU MOVE MOUNTAINS! (…OF LEAVES…)

SCH (Supplies) Ltd have a number of products available which are ready to deal with the vast number of leaves that will descend over the coming weeks.

The Professional Leaf Suction Unit (Ref PSU)

Attach the unit to a trailer of your choice.  (SCH have a range of trailers or you can use your own.)  The operator uses the large hose to greedily suck up the leaves, and as they pass though the fan they are chopped up, which greatly increases the trailers capacity.  This makes the process more efficient, as it decreases the need to keep emptying.

The Trailed Sweeper (Ref TS98)

This sweeping beauty is a robust trailed unit, with a rot proof collector, so it’s built to last. The differential mechanism on the brushes makes for great manoeuvrability and allows both ground wheels to drive the pick up brushes, giving superior sweeping power.

There is also a hard surface version available, (Ref HSTS98) which like the original, is height adjustable.  The hard surface sweeper also has a sprung floor, allowing sand to flow back through the base whilst collecting all debris.

WATER – WATER EVERYWHERE!
We have been warned that we are on the brink of a long hot summer. This can be hard to believe when sometimes we look out of the window and see dreary skies and rain. But, as we all know, a day or two later, the hot sun can dry the ground so completely that plants, trees and vegetables wither and die if not fed and watered promptly.

One of the most popular waterers in our range, the 70 litre Trolley Mounted Waterer (ref THBW) has now been updated to provide even more efficiency.

Do call us if you would like any further advice or information, and of course to find your nearest dealer.

SCH (Supplies) Ltd of Ipswich buys the manufacturing and sales rights of the world famous “Bonsar” utility truck from Martin Trucks Ltd.
The photograph was taken at the handover of the purchase.
Andrew Rodwell MD SCH (Supplies) Ltd, Gordon Davenport MD of Martin Trucks Ltd,
and Paul Adams Sales Manager of SCH.
Andrew Rodwell Managing Director of SCH has always wanted to own a Bonsar truck from the age of ten when his father bought two units for his malting business. When the opportunity arose to purchase the rights he could not resist it. Paul Adams, Sales Manager of SCH is determined to modernise the unit with several drastic design changes. Fluid drive, hydraulic tipping etc.
SCH feels that very shortly they will have a low cost, versatile truck where the user emphasis is on hard work rather than staff transport with a carrying capacity of 1000kgs. SCH will be able to offer full spares back up to existing users.
